I passed on most of the big books from my teaching days to my daughter
when she was teaching, but still have a couple lingering around here that have
got to go.
Well, there’s one that I’m going to keep. It was one of the early
big books published by Scholastic, back in 1980. Don Holdaway, my mentor, gave
it to me and it was his favorite. What an experience to watch him read it with a group of kids during a shared reading session. BTW, if you don’t know who Don Holdaway is, check him out on
the internet. He knew how kids learned to read and how to get that to happen in
school.
