That’s not really true. As I mentioned a few days ago, NO it’s not time
to let go of family photographs. Today, however, it was time to organize the
albums on the shelf and while doing so to let go of a few books and notebooks.
What you see in the photo is a half-filled garbage bag, a half-filled grocery bag
with books to go to the put-and-take, and some piles of books to get ride of or
to read. It may not look like progress to you, but it feels like progress to
me. With the organization I’ve just completed, I might be ready to go through
the albums and get rid of duplicate pictures.

It’s time to go, paperclips in the desk 213/365
The purge is on big time. Not just paperclips but all kinds of desk stuff
we haven’t used in years. Really, how many thumbtacks does one need? Maybe
none. Then there are greeting cards, envelopes, old calendars, dried up glue
sticks... the list gets boring.
How
do we know what gets thrown away or taken to the put-and-take? Easy question:
If we were moving, would be take it? Put another way, we make decisions by
pretending we are moving, although that is not on our immediate horizon.

Day 30/365 It’s time to go, notebooks
Well, really all the pages in the notebooks; I’m saving the covers. I
might need one sometime and I’d hate to have to go out and buy a new one. What amazes
me is that I can throw out an entire section of my life in less than thirty
seconds. Committees that were essential become hardly a memory.
I still have more notebooks to
deal with. Take these, which hold class notes, term papers and articles on each
of the thirty courses I took for my divinity degree. I’m planning to read
through each one. Um, that may not happen, but I’m not ready to let go of them.
And when I do, just think of all the notebooks I’ll have for new courses and
committees! No, no, no!
The dumpster is ready, waiting to be picked up. My husband did such a
superb joy of loading it that there is still room for more stuff. At the moment
we may have nothing more to throw away, but there’s plenty of stuff around here
to get rid of.
