When Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines was overthrown in 1986, it was
reported that his wife Imelda, fleeing the country, left behind between 2 and 3
thousand pairs of shoes. Don’t feel sorry for her; she returned to Manila in
2001, reentered politics and opened a
shoe museum.
Although there seems to be
universal agreement among the sexes that women like shoes, the agreement stops
there. When a woman tells another woman that she needs another pair of shoes,
she hears, “You go, girl.” Men just don’t get it.
I won’t get into a commentary on Imelda’s shoe addiction, but I do kind
of get it. Thus, getting rid of these two pairs yesterday wasn’t easy. Why not
keep them just in case? But no, I don’t like them, nor are the comfortable; I
won’t wear them. Off they go to the church rummage sale that is coming up
October 12 and 13. Um, I wonder if Imelda ever let go of a pair?
