Day 178/365 It’s time to go, dust on the books

This morning I let go of a few books, but for primarily it was time for the dust to go. Today it was the three shelves in the Angel Room that house my Medieval Ages and the Renaissance (Florence) library—my favorite periods in history.
Then there's the floor!

Before--hard to tell the difference. It's not easy to photograph dust.

I found duplicates of two books, so that was an easy release, but the others are sacred. I’ve read most of them but want to reread then all. How much have I forgotten? A lot. Anyway it feels freeing to look at the pristine, dust-free shelf with all those books waiting for me. I’d rather read than clean.

Day 57/365 It’s time to go, broken faucet parts

Fixing a dripping faucet isn’t exactly in the spirit of this blog of letting go of stuff, but it’s all part of living well. Our kitchen faucet was dripping, and as we know, that is not in the spirit of ‘being green’. Delta sent us the little parts we needed—all included in the life-time warrantee. Isn’t it wonderful when everything works? In this case the warrantee and the faucet.

Day 52/365 It’s time to go, dirt on the windows

I hope no one will argue with my choice. Yesterday we had the windows cleaned and believe me, just looking through the glass let’s me know that we got rid of a lot of dirt. This was an easy one to let go of.

I can’t bag the results; there was nothing to take to the dump. The proof is in the windows, the evidence in the rags that Crystal Clear Cleaning used.

I peeled the grandchildren’s the window art off the sunroom window and stored them in a plastic bag. Maybe it will go back up, but we’re certainly not ready to let it go.

Day 7/365 It’s time to go, junk in the cellar

Yesterday was a much more productive day as far as getting rid of stuff, but not nearly as much fun as giving away a teddy bear. But this isn’t about fun, I keep telling myself, although I am having more fun than I ever thought possible. Anyway, it was time for the junk in the cellar to go.

Our fieldstone cellar is pretty empty except for the furnace and an old washer and dryer. I thought the place was clear but my husband reminded me of a shelf of treasures collecting dirt (yes, dirt, not dust).

More plates and dishes. I considered keeping the yellow plastic plates (by Heller) from the ‘70s, until I remembered that this isn’t about nostalgia. So along with some other dishes and platters (all of which received a quick wash) I divvied everything up between two bags, one for the put-and-take, the other labeled for the church fair.
But what were all those boxes of Glad bags doing down there? Years ago, before BJ’s and Cosco, I ordered by bulk from Hills Food Service, which came to the house and filled my freezer and pantry. You can imagine my embarrassment when they brought a box of 50 rolls of toilet paper—but of course it proved a useful purchase. Well, saver that I am, I didn’t even examine the glad bags. Good for me.To the dump they go.

You may have notice the dehumidifier. It will be loaded into the dumpster that we are planning to get dumped in our driveway come September. Of course, first we will see if it still works. Ah, then another decision, but why throw away a good humidifier just because of a little rust? Um, which makes me wonder if that washer and drying still works!
