Grime under the sink, it’s time to go. Day 192/365

      Where did all this grime come from? A mystery that I’ve decided I don’t need to solve. What I know is that all at once it gets to me and I know it’s time to clean.

The good news is that this time there were no jars, sponges or brushes to toss. Maybe my desire for simplicity is paying off. I just hadn’t accumulated those extra just-in-case things.

Day 160/365 It’s time to go, stuff under the kitchen sink

    Have you ever noticed that no matter how often you clean under the kitchen sink there is always plenty to throw away? I don’t clean there very often, and I try to keep up with it, but still, there’s always stuff to toss. The other day I had to remove everything so we could deal with a clogged drain. That’s taken care of; the stuff is back, but not before another purge.

That Ajax is 40 years old. I kid you not.

Day 136/365 It’s time to go, boxes, bottles and plastic containers

     Here at the cottage I’ve been storing up boxes (Cheerios) bottles (Spicy Hot V8 juice), and plastic containers (chicken salad from the deli) until I could put them out for recycle. Finally the day came when I was here on a Monday morning, which is when the town garbage truck come around.
      I’ve been taking my garbage home every week, but the carefully rinsed recyclables had to wait before I let go of them. There is something thoughtful, something ‘green’  about recycling on site, where the material is used. That’s my little theory as I do my best to reduce, reuse and recycle as intentionally as I can.

Day 102 /365 it’s time to go, beer glasses

-->
    Today long-time friends are making the hour and a half drive from their  home to have lunch with us. And do we have treasures for them! In fact, why not make it a Christmas gift, to be opened immediately, of course.

It’s time to let go of these Hard Rock Café beer glasses, and since our friends have lived in both the Boston and D.C. areas, they are the perfect recipients.

Need I remind you that we got them at the put-and-take? And of course the Christmas wrapping also came from there. Isn’t it amazingly wonderful that what someone wants to let go of is just what someone else is grateful to receive? At least that’s what we're hoping.
